Paw Prints

Paw Prints is the Elementary School newspaper. Beginning in the 2005/2006 school year Paw Prints will be published six times a year. The first edition published in late August is the back to school edition, welcoming new students and teachers to the school. The other five editions are published during the school year and focus on exhibiting excellent student work. There are also additional pages with news, photographs and activities.

Paw Prints is created by the Paw Prints Publishing Team (PPPT), under the direction of the Elementary Computers teacher. The PPPT is a group of dedicated grade 4 and 5 students who meet every Tuesday and Thursday at lunch recess. They use their technology, communication and group work skills to work together to create each edition of Paw Prints. Applications for the PPPT are accepted in May each year for the next school year.

Earth Day

The elementary school students celebrate Earth Day annually and this year is no exception. On Earth Day students learn to appreciate nature by learning about mother earth participating in fun and exciting activities. This event will be held in the second semester.

Knowledge Masters

Each year, grade 5 participates in the annual Knowledge Masters Open. In this competition, schools from all over the world take a test that covers all school subject areas. Our KM team was made up of 15 students. They got together twice a week for six weeks to increase their knowledge and practice the art of group test taking. On March 13, the day of the test, their hard work paid off. Grade 5 rose to the occasion and had an outstanding performance. Of the 383 schools that participated, SIS ranked in the top 10 percent. Congratulations Knowledge Masters!

Science Week

During Science Week, students interact with science in depth, focusing every day of the week on particular areas of study relating to science. During the week full of science, elementary students discover interesting facts relating to science and share their findings. Various cross grade level activities are organized. Science Week may even have competitions among the elementary students in which students will test their knowledge in the field of science. This event will be held in the second semester.

Assemblies

Assemblies unite the elementary school student body and provide an opportunity for students to speak out in front of their peers, enabling them to practice their public speaking skills. Student lead assemblies are provided each quarter. Each grade level is responsible for organizing and conducting one assembly per year. A wide variety of acts and performances can be seen at each assembly making them fun, interesting and educational for the students.
